Last month, we told you about some of the reasons people in the Oakland area are falling in love with the Veloster. But what we didn't tell you is that Hyundai was busy cooking up a faster engine for the 2013 model, and it'll be here before you know it.
In fact, it's already been test-driven by some very trustworthy sources at an industry event in June, and Edmunds Inside Line was there, and they have a lot of very nice things to say about the 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo. More specifically, they explain, "Hyundai's new Veloster Turbo comes across as impressively stout, whether connecting the dots on a twisty road or pulling out to pass a semi-truck on the highway."1
This is thanks to its twin-scroll turbocharger, which boosts the 1.6-liter Gamma engine from the original model's peppy 138-horsepower to 201-horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. Regardless of all this power, when equipped with the six-speed manual transmission, the Turbo still boasts as much as 38 mpg on the highway.
On top of which, Hyundai tweaked the chassis - but just barely. The suspension, from the springs to the stabilizer bars is exactly the same as the original. Which is a good thing, because we had only good things to say about it in the first place. Hyundai did, however, make adjustments to the steering and brakes to accommodate for the zippier engine.
The Korean automaker completed the package with heated front leather seats, rear leather seats, LED accent lights in the front and back, Turbo alloy wheels, available paddleshifters for the six-speed automatic transmission, brightly-lit gauges, push-button start and a unique Veloster headliner.
