Pst...It's that time of year again, drivers - the annual SEMA show kicked off in Vegas yesterday, and our favorite automaker is there with a tuned up version of one of our favorite new Hyundai models in the lineup. It's the 'Velocity' Veloster, a joint effort between the Design and Engineering teams of Hyundai American Technical Center in Irvine.

Playing off the characteristics that have made the Veloster a shining star in the Future Hyundai of Concord showroom, the Velocity Veloster feature 19 x 9 inch racing wheels with a satin-charcoal finish; a lower body kit and large front and rear brake cooling ducts; a lift-reducing diffuser, a super-sized rear wing; and racing design graphics.

The exterior wasn't the only thing up for modifications, either. Under the hood, the already peppy 1.6 liter gasoline engine (201 horsepower) is tuned to a growling 400 horses. Enhancements include performance pistons, tweaks to the rods, turbocharger, intercooler, intake manifold, intake-charging design, fuel-system and engine management.

Brembo 4-piston calipers and two-piece rotors, as well as new Bilstein springs and monotube dampers have been added to better handle all of that power.

Chris Chapman, Head of Hyundai's Irvine Design Center explains, "In creating Velocity, we were inspired to take the Veloster's original concept strengths to their fullest expression. Velocity gave our design and engineering teams license to take Veloster far beyond everyday production car limitations."1

That said, we won't expect a 400-horsepower Veloster to roll into the Future Hyundai of Concord showroom anytime soon. But be sure to stay tuned with us to learn more about the upcoming Turbo Veloster as well as the other performance vehicles in the new Hyundai lineup - that includes, but is not limited to the Genesis Coupe, Genesis, and Equus.

Take any of the above-mentioned models for a spin right here at 1051 Burnett Ave Concord, CA 94520.
