Steve Kelleher, President and CEO of Hyundai Canada, claims that the launch of the 2013 Santa Fe is among the most important product launches in the company's history. Hyundai claims that the new crossover is just as or more important than the introduction of the award-winning new Elantra in 2010. That's a tall order for the CUV - but we're sure it will have no problem pleasing critics and fans alike.

The first big change for 2013 is that the Santa Fe will no longer be just a single model - the Santa Fe family will consist of two distinct models. One is being called the Santa Fe, a larger model that's taken the place of the former Hyundai Veracruz, with room for seven passengers. The Santa Fe Sport (formerly known as just the Santa Fe) will feature room for five passengers, and plenty of amenities from the front grille to the rear bumper.

Powered by a 190-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine or a 264-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo, the Santa Fe Sport is as fun to drive as it looks. All-wheel drive is optional, as you would expect, and the Sport comes standard with four-wheel disc brakes, MacPherson strut front suspension, and a Multi-link rear suspension with a shock absorber and stabilizer bar. Buyers get to choose: 17- or 19-inch alloy wheels.

Other stellar features: up to 33 mpg on the highway and 71.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats laid flat.

The longer wheelbase Santa Fe will be here soon, too, so be sure to stay tuned with Future Hyundai of Concord to learn more about it. Or, stop by later this fall to see it in person, we're located at 1051 Burnett Ave Concord, CA 94520.
