The Best Cars awards are decided based on quality and value data within 23 different vehicle categories. The vehicle with the highest composite score in each class is named the Best Car for the Money in that segment. U.S. News evaluated quality by the overall score a vehicle achieved in the U.S. News car rankings. The rankings are evaluated in terms of safety, reliability, and the opinion of industry experts. Value is measured by a vehicle’s five-year total cost of ownership as well as the average price paid for each vehicle. Jamie Page Deaton, managing editor of the U.S. News Best Car rankings, had this to say:

"Consumers know Hyundai as a true value brand. The Tucson’s Best Compact SUV for the Money win, however, shows that it’s an SUV that offers not only great value but also one of the best ownership experiences in the class."

Brandon Ramirez, senior group manager, product planning, Hyundai Motor America (HMA) had this to say about the honor:

"By receiving this top honor from the trusted U.S. News & World Report, the 2016 Tucson shows Hyundai is delivering bold style, convenience and style, all at an outstanding value. Hyundai will continue engineering vehicles with advanced technology and safety features while delivering high value with an exceptional driving experience."
